Long Island Man Dies In Vermont Skiing Crash, Police Say

A Long Island man died after hitting a tree while skiing in New England.

It happened on Saturday, Dec. 28 at approximately 3 p.m. at the Killington Resort in Vermont.

Nassau County resident Jason Vitale, 48, of Baldwin, was traveling at a high rate of speed on an intermediate trail when he lost control and collided with the tree, according to Vermont State Police. 

Vitale, who was not wearing a helmet at the time of the collision, was quickly moved off the mountain by members of the Killington Ski Patrol, state police said. 

Vitale went into cardiac arrest while being transported to the hospital where he later died as a result from his injuries, state police said.
